Having problems with your zo?

I have the ZO plugged in and turned on, but I don't hear a difference. What do I do?

More than likely it is connected backwards, so try switching the input and output connections. The ZO has been designed such that you will still hear the audio even if the input and output connections are backwards.

The audio seems to be distorted, overdriven, or too loud. What do I do?

First, try switching out the 3.5mm stereo cable with the secondary stereo cable provided. In most cases, this will solve the problem. If not, check your audio source's sound enhancement settings. Neutralize (i.e., turn off) any equalizer presets, and turn down the bass levels until the audio improves. Since the zo does not have a volume control, excessive loudness should be reduced using the volume control on your media player. If you are using a line-out dock please see the question below regarding using the line-out connection. If these techniques don't resolve the problem, please contact digiZoid support.

When I use the bypass function, I hear a slight popping sound. Is this normal?

Yes, this occurs because audio signals are being switched between different circuit components as the bypass engages or disengages. Some of these components take time to power up or down, resulting in the popping sound as they normalize to operating levels. If the popping is severe, reduce the volume of your player to limit the input signal level and/or the volume of the listening device zo is connected to prior to using the bypass.

Using the zo

Can I use the zo with a line-out connection?

Yes, the zo can be used with line-out; however, so you don't overdrive the zo, you must limit the signal level going into it. This can be done by inserting a volume control cable between the line-out source and the zo, as shown in the diagram below:

Do I need an amplifier with the ZO?

No. The ZO has a built-in amplifier that is powerful enough to drive a high impedance headphone (up to at least 300 ohms). If the output signal from an amplifier is fed into the ZO, this will produce undesirable results and could seriously damage the ZO.

Can I use the zo with wireless headphones?

Of course. Just connect the output of your media player to the input of the zo, and its output to the wireless transmitter. The overall sound quality of the wireless headphone will improve when the zo is used; however, it's effect won't be as significant as compared to a non-wireless headphone.

In the manual, what exactly do you mean by "neutralizing the audio source"?

What we mean is that all equalizer (EQ) settings/presets or other sound enhancements (Dolby Noise Reduction) be turned off. Also, the bass and treble levels need to be turned all the way down, and the volume turned down to about 25%.

How do you charge the zo, and how long will the battery last per charge?

The zo is charged using the supplied mini-USB charging cable and a standard USB 2.0 port. Depending on which contour profile you set your zo at, the battery will last anywhere from 6-12 hours. The green profile gives you the longest battery life, followed by the red, then the orange profile.

How would I physically attach the zo to my portable media player?

We've found that 3M™ Command™ Strips work great. They come in a variety of sizes, hold the zo tightly, and are easy to remove. You can get them at most places that carry picture hanging supplies. In the future we also anticipate offering other attachment tips, tricks, and devices via our website.

Does the zo personal subwoofer drain power from my media player?

No, and as a matter of fact, the zo will actually extend the battery life of your media player!
